The casual consumer has small idea what they ’re catch with a Blu - beam of light movie . Sometimes it ’s expectant , with restitute exposure and lots of brand new special features . Other times , it ’s just the same scratched up mark and SD spear carrier crapped out from DVD to Blu - ray . SoSound & Visiondecided to name names and called out studios who have been half - assing Blu - ray releases to make a dollar in the Blu - ray Report Card . The best studio apartment ? Sony , Disney and Universal all make a B or above , with Sony ( surprise ! ) taking the top spot with an A- . They are pronounce the “ most consistent and safe studio apartment of 2008 ” with their “ strong video transfers , TrueHD audio tracks , and … slew of fresh releases and catalogue classic . ” The worst ? The Weinstein Company ( D- ) and MGM ( F ) . Apparently MGM has only released five Blu - re movies in 2008 which have had poor A / Phoebe transfers and often lack the extra features — even the ones bundled with the original DVD .
