Here ’s the earth - first brushup of the 2014 Honda CB1100 Deluxe . Not because we tried all that difficult to scoop it , but because everyone else really is just that faineant .

For 2014 , it ’s switched from a 5- to a 6 - swiftness gearbox and this fresh Deluxe model gains half a gallon of fuel capacity , a 4 - into-2 exhaust and a comfort - pattern seat . Riding it , you get the feeling that an elder Honda executive in Japan come up with his dream bike , then force it through to production with no compromises . mellow quality suspension , a bespoke motor created just for this bike , cryptic chrome buffer and just a ecumenical no compromises draw close throughout — the Pteridium aquilinum calipers are the same used on the firm ’s superbikes just a few age ago — does not conduce to a low price point and the CB1100 is thousands of dollars more expensive than any rival .
A Leontyne Price col it does n’t really justify with public presentation . It may gestate 276cc and two more cylinders than a Triumph Bonneville , but at a 87bhp and 540lbs ( standard model ) , it ’s no faster than the 496lbs , 68bhp , $ 7,899 Bonnie .
The addition of a 6th gear — something the Triumph does n’t have — does do a little to better operation . While Honda has n’t released the ratio inside the new gearbox , we can count a one tooth larger rearward sprocket , shortening the final drive ratio for incrementally improved speedup . And , while 6th is perceptibly grandiloquent than fifth on the former manakin , it ’s not just an overdrive ratio and you may achieve meaningful acceleration in it .
It does noticeably drop RPMs at highway focal ratio though . Where the old CB1100 was unsettled at 80 mph , this new bike sail at 90 in a smooth , unperturbed style .
The clocks continue the Graeco-Roman sound looking with modern function base . The two green - faced analogue dials bookend a digital show consummate with a now - accurate fuel gauge , paraphernalia position indicant , clock and head trip metre .
Fuellyreports that CB1100 owners average 46mpg . With the Modern 4.6 gallon tank car ( create by adding a little tallness ) , the CB1100 ’s range rise from 180 to a more useful 210 miles .
