Tonight ’s instalment of Mythbusters , Flights of Fantasy features two very different types of fly machines : drones and a Lockheed U-2 spy planer . Show host Adam Savage and Jaime Hyneman claim a couple of minutes to chat with us about the episode and the sleep of the newly - bring up season of the show .
Tonight ’s episode sees the duo testing out two aviation questions : is the U-2 undercover agent airplane really as hard to vanish and country , and as we see more and more drones put to body of work with deliveries , just how dangerous can that be ?
For the U2 spy planer segment , the pair lead out to the Beale Air Force Base , home of the ninth Reconnaissance Wing , which flies the aeroplane . The Mythbusters bunch spent a brace of months working with the United States Air Force to see out just what type of sequence they could structure an instalment around .

of late , Savage showed up at San Diego Comic Con dressed in a blank space suit of his own , along with Astronaut Chris Hadfield . When ask how they compared to one another , “ My fake quad suits are far more comfortable and easier to put on . ”

The dyad noted that the crew of the Beale Air Force base were fantastic : Jamie noted that “ the total support gang could n’t be more accommodating and were excellent in their jobs . frankly , the U2 is one of the most wonderful flying experiences I ’ve ever had . ”
The other half of the sequence was all about commercial-grade legal transfer drone and how safe they really can be . When they test one of the rotor blade against a raw chicken , they find that they can do some pretty serious impairment .
Savage had some thoughts on how drone pilots need to remember that there ’s a sure horizontal surface of duty that comes with fly a potentially severe tool : “ Everyone who ’s presently fly a drone is representing the hobby . When mass do something stupid , that ’s what people think of . Our tool are serious if they ’re done obtusely . I hope that our sequence does n’t sensationalize the risk , and reinforce how they should respect . ’
Hyneman maneuver out that while there have been some sensational mischance with drone – chiefly when drones got in the style of aeriform fire fighter – drones want to be keep in perspective : “ it ’s certainly a licit concern , [ but ] it ’s important to call up that most of these are the size of birds and flying at the same altitude . Despite some of the endangerment that they cover on the show , the pair note that drones have been in utilisation on the show for two years now . Hyneman noted that “ Control on these things is so good , the camera guy cable is going out with a twosome of them , he ’ll send them up and ensnare the shot , and then go off to run another camera . These are roost over our set like they ’re on a bonanza . The reach and extention that we have as a resultant role is already fairly amazing . ”
