Hey Jason , I was in LA for a bit yesterday , helping Jalopnik pass over theLA autoshowwith my prospicient lens . ( It was a boring show with nothing too interesting other than theElectric MiniandHonda Concept . ) But it was coincidentally the same day JJ Abrams was showing off some prospect from the newTrek movie , so I stopped by . This is funny : When they call for me if I had any recording geartrain in my bag , I had a philia onslaught . Most multitude had a bare cellphone , but I had my full journo - blogger - conflict courier and so I finish up ascertain like 4 bit of AV gear and a laptop computer . So awkward . Inside , I do n’t unremarkably get star struck , but how can a eccentric not get unrestrained seeing both Harold from Harold and Kumar and Sylar in the same theater posture in the same words watching themselves on the screen . And it was Trek ! Not the old Trek , and Not even Next Generation , but a Modern kind of Trek with the origins of the sure-enough character and how they met up . Shields up , spoilers ahead . They first showed the new trailer , previewed in theater play Bond , which you’re able to see here .
Then they went through the scene were we see a worry Kirk getting into a legal community fight with cadets until a man post on his father ’s ship realize who he is , hold back the fight and asks him if he wants to do something better with his life . Kirk takes him up and join . The next scene involve Kirk working with Bones to smuggle him aboard the Enterprise and he saves them from walk into a ambush . The next vista involve a fight scene with John Cho ( HAROLD and Sulu ) and Chris Pine ( Kirk ) vs some dirty Romulans , skydive ( yes , skydiving ) and a sabre fight . And the final conniption involves Spock and Kirk meeting Scotty . The Trek Dorks are currently a flake polarized , a few upset over rewriting canon and a few upset about the stylistic updates . But I really like the New Trek , and I suppose it could break out of the category of Films Only for Nerds . You ’ve get more action , humor , and heat than you did in the former ones . Even if its a scrap less intellectual than former movies at sentence , if the preview was any meter reading , it does n’t seem to ever slow down . And most significantly , it ’s out of the question to not come across with the young cast playing the classic character as they convey the onetime mannerism ; Kirk run like Kirk , Bones kick like finger cymbals , and Scotty , well Scotty is 100x more funny than the old Scotty . get to call up of it , everyone with an emphasis is extremely funny , but maybe because I ’m a bit racist . ( In a loving style . ) Someone should have done an origins movie long ago , but within a year , we ’ll have a modernistic telling of the heroes many of us grew up with . If you ’re like me , you ’ll probably find the chronicle of how they all got together as cadet and juniors as significant as the existent dangerous undertaking they go on . peradventure we can do an io9 / Gizmodo reviewer meetup pic night .
