Falling Skies was originally sold as a gritty war drama , created by the author of Saving Private Ryan . And since then it ’s been about twenty different thing . But now , I guess we ’re getting to see what happens when the humanity have misplace the state of war against the aliens . pillager ahead …
This was the Falling Skies 2d season opener in a rowing to jump forward a few months , and present us with a firebrand new status quo . Last twelvemonth , it was seven month later on and suddenly the humans were allied with the Volm and shit huge progress against the Espheni invader . This clock time around , it ’s four month subsequently and the mankind are all in Espheni prison camps , except for a favourable few .
The Espheni have abandoned jolly much all the tactics that distinguished their invasion in previous season — no more eyebugs , no more harnesses , and the mechs and Skitters seem to be mostly sideline . Instead , the Espheni have become Nazis , with prison camps and reeducation camps — the comparing is n’t blatant enough , so Matt “ Mad Dog ” Mason has to take it up explicitly .
Last night ’s sequence sees the unveiling of novel showrunners , Eick and Jericho ’s Carol Barbee , along with all - young author . This is n’t the first time BSG veterans have worked on Falling Skies — in season one , the showrunner was BSG writer Mark Verheiden . But last night ’s episode cue me a lot of the BSG storyline where the Cylons occupied New Caprica and put all the humans into a ghetto .
Let ’s break it down :
The world is a ghetto
Basically , the first scary reveal of last Nox ’s episode is that the Espheni have get under one’s skin hold ofTholiantechnology , which allow them to create dense adamant - shaped fence , which ca n’t be initiate even by throw off electrical energy at them .
Basically , the human are all trapped inside a self-aggrandising “ ghetto , ” where the Espheni have their new flying Skitters drop food every now and then . And sometimes , the flying Skitters grab the great unwashed and pull them up into their motherships . Hal and Tector have become best buds inside the camp , but Pope ( who used to be willing to do any crazy thing to fight the Skitters ) wo n’t let them borrow his generator , because he ’s too busybodied watch out Gilligan ’s Island .
Why are the Espheni keeping all the man live , after trying so hard to pass over everyone out ? How did they round down up the surviving mankind so easily ? We do n’t bed , but there are manifestly “ ghetto ” all over the world , and we meet one guy named Dingaan Botha who ’s escaped from a few of the ghettos before .
But Tom has goggles !
Also inside the Charleston ghetto , Tom Mason and Dan Weaver are locked in “ solitary restriction ” with a pickle in the wall so they can convey . You think that Tom is just scrawling patriotic spoken language on the wall so he can think of he ’s a account instructor — but actually , he ’s in secret sneaking out of his cellular phone through a concealed exit , and making a detailed map of the ghetto so he can plat a big break - out .
Whenever Tom give-up the ghost out of his cadre , he wears a top dog - scarf and goggles , so nobody will realize he can leave his cell at will — and this has made him a legendary resistance loss leader , with his picture painted on the paries and stuff .
Dan Weaver almost throws away his lifetime on a pointless violation on a Skitter , because the Skitters took Jeannie up to the Mothership . ( I would say it ’s Jeannie ’s fault for endeavor to be a double - agent andinfiltrate Liber8 . The Skitters will never rent her roam innocent after that . ) But Tom convinces Dan that they ’re actually travel to be doing something big soon , and he want Dan alive . Oh , and Dan still has a sum condition , and is kind of loopy .
There ’s perfidiousness !
It ’s Cochise , the Volm leader who used to be the humans ’ main ally . He tells Tom that the Volm have mostly left Earth because the Espheni threatened the Volm ’s young , who were supposed to be good on a hidden major planet somewhere . The Volm leave a fistful of spotter units on Earth , and they ’re not supposed to take the foeman .
But then at the end of the instalment , we find out that Cochise is actually work for the Espheni overlord now — I suppose — and they tell him to hand over the occult resistance leader with the goggles . ( Who they do n’t realize is Tom . ) What exactly has Tom done in his goggle - disguise to draw in so much attention ? Not exonerated , but if he ’s not pass on over , the Espheni will wipe out the whole ghetto .
Update : Commenter Stankykang says that ’s not Cochise working for the Espheni . It ’s actually some other noncitizen . Sorry about that !
And the Espheni have set up up fancy schools .
Like I said , no more harnesses — instead , “ Mad Dog ” Matt Mason is being indoctrinated in a Nazi reeducation school , where everybody tire out crisp beige uniforms and get a line to praise their Espheni liberators . They have to parrot the stock lines about how the Espheni save humanity and how we ’re part of a astronomic Sion , before they get their gruel . But “ Mad Dog ” Matt Mason is secretly being surreptitious and have subversive meetings in his room .
Anne is leading the Second Mass now !
The cadaver of the Second Mass is still at large , and essay to organize a missionary work to deliver the others . They ’re being lead by Anne Glass , who seems unhealthily fixated on just rescuing her girl Lexi , to the point where you start to wonder why Anthony and the other soldiers are follow her orders , since Lexi ’s not their girl . Anne does n’t want anybody to log Z’s until she gets her daughter back , which sounds like a terrible Beastie Boys song . They find out that a truck is coming past , drive by a human pardner , and they lay an ambuscade — which does n’t do work until Anne throws some guy wire ’s shirt , on fire , at the truck . fortunately , she does n’t light up the whole motortruck on fire after all , because it ’s full of captured children . Why are the Espheni using truck when they have tons of spaceships ? ( And where does anybody get gasolene at this point ? ) Forget it , Jake . It ’s Falling Skies .
Oh , and when Anne sleeps , she has a dream about her daughter — which is n’t a dream , it ’s her girl telepathically reach out out to her , using light beams and material .
Ben Mason is living in a gilded cage
Ben Mason wakes up after a few months in a comatoseness , and find out that he ’s living in a perfect idyllic commune . Along with Maggie and Lourdes , who say him that everybody has establish up weapon and violence , and they ’re living in peace and repose there . Maggie has been pissed off and violent her whole life , but now she ’s quick to just give in and exist in her implausibly unlikely haven . But Ben Mason is disoriented and not entirely on card with this turning of events .
Ben regain out that it ’s all thanks to Lexi , who ’s suddenly A ) a grown - up and vitamin B ) blonde . She ’s some sort of half - alien , half - human chimera , who has psychic powers and predicts the Espheni attack before it happens . She also knows when a Mech is going to assail , and knows it ’ll be struck by lightning before it can do any hurt . And there are stack of vague instruction about how Lexi is move to be the key to ending the warfare or saving everybody , with her incredibly creepy repose .
