Last night , Viserys finally have his promised reward , on Game of Thrones . Yay Viserys ! He ’s shown the kind of leadership we can get behind . And now that his lineament have finally been distinguish , he can houseclean up this whole mountain .
Here ’s our recap of “ A Golden Crown , ” concentrate specially on why Viserys has the makings of a gravid monarch butterfly – and speculate on just how Viserys would deal with some of those crafty political situation , back home in Westeros . Vote Viserys in 2012 : You know it makes sense .
Spoilers ahead …
Not only is Viserys the lawful inheritor to the Iron Throne , he ’s also a man who sleep together how to rule . As he tells Ser Jorah Mormont , you ca n’t rule without wealth , fear or erotic love . Luckily , Viserys knows how to get all three for himself .

But in the latest episode , his charm offensive escalates , during his pregnant sister ’s ritual devouring of a sensitive sawbuck centre . Viserys , distinguish that this is an important ceremonial affair , keeps up a running comment explaining how his sister will never be able-bodied to keep from be sick up the heart and ruining her son ’s chances of leadership . And when Daenerys does keep the center down , he stalk off in invidia and disgust as the Dothraki pronounce her Word the Khal of Khals and the “ stallion who mounts the earthly concern . ”
A less humanity might think that it ’s pretty amazing that his baby is doing so well at assimilating into Dothraki culture and becoming such a powerful physical body in their ruling elite . A less gentleman’s gentleman might even see some advantage for himself in the fact that his nephew is believed to be the succeeding reality leader – since people will fight like netherworld for a boy who ’s been prophesized to be the Khal of Khals , and this could rise very utile . But Viserys is no lesser man – he is a gentleman’s gentleman of vision .
As for riches – Viserys holds it in his manus . He ’s drive clutches of the three dragon eggs which his sis received as a wedding nowadays . Not only are those testicle uncommon and immensely valuable , they appear to have some magical property still , since Daenerys put one of them in the fire and it did not burn her . ( Although her sister was n’t so lucky . ) With those ball , Viserys could have enough wealth to buy the Iron Throne for himself . unluckily , he ’s done such a slap-up job with his magical spell offensive , winning over everyone ’s making love , that nobody wants to see him leave . ( At least , not with those orchis . )
Finally , Viserys has his opportunity to use fright to acquire power . He receive out his sword – even though swords and bloodbath are prevent in the Khalasar – and snaffle his own fraught sis at swordpoint , threatening to cut her baby out of her . That ’s putting the fear of Viserys into them ! And this scheme entirely bring – Viserys get the crown he ’s been waiting for all this time . In fact , every sequence of Game of Thrones from here on out is going to be about the awesome rule of King Viserys , and his noble say-so . But of course , despite Viserys ’ great victory , there are still a few other quality we have to worry about in Game of Thrones . allow ’s run through their fib one by one , while ask : What would Viserys do ?
There ’s Tyrion Lannister , who starts out the episode where he left off last week : trap in a sky cell where every clip he falls deceased , he almost rolls off the edge to his expiry . He ’s the captive of the merciless Lady Lysa Arryn and her psychotic son Lord Robert , who keeps screaming “ Make the bad man vanish . ” And his jailer , the brainsick Mord , keeps beating him and withstand all efforts to bribe him . ( Tyrion attempt to explain to Mord that the conception of possession is sometimes abstract is one of the greatest things I ’ve seen in ages , although not as great as what follow . )
last , Tyrion convinces Mord to lease him see Lady Lysa and her baby , Catelyn Stark , on the pretense that he ’s going to confess his crimes . What would Viserys do in this situation ? Bear in psyche that Viserys is a formidable strategist , but also a lofty man . Seeing two women and a little boy , he would probably attempt to drive the fear into them , with a healthy show of bluster . Show them what a veridical man is like . They ’d have been so impressed , they ’d likely send Viserys on his way by the quickest route possible .
Tyrion , not being as brilliant as Viserys , just uses his wit rather . First , he catches Lysa and Robert off guard by “ confessing ” to a series of piffling crimes , admit stealing a serving lady friend ’s apparel , putting goat shit in his uncle ’s boots , and wanking into his sister ’s turtle fret . “ I made the bald man cry . ” ( He also made me cry . With laugh . ) Oh , and it ’s deserving noting that Tyrion ’s oral communication is about one - millionth as fishy in the book , where it give out :
Where to start out ? I am a vile short man , I confess it . My offense and sins are beyond counting , my lords and ladies . I have lain with whore , not once but hundreds of times . I have like my own lord father dead , and my baby , our own benignant queen , as well . I have not always address my servants with kindness . I have risk . I have cheated . I redden to allow in . I have allege many barbarous and malicious things about the nobleman and madam of the court . Once , I –
Compare that to “ I milked the one - eyed snake , ” speaking about a turtle stew that he hop his sister ate . Television Tyrion is just more merriment , it must be state .
After Lady Lysa gets pissed and tries to send Tyrion back to the luxurious sky electric cell , he demands a trial — and not by the sagacious mind of Lord Robert , but by combat . Tyrion tries to name his brother Jaime as his wiz , but Lysa ’s not willing to look that long to settle this . So Tyrion has to ask for a unpaid worker — and it turn out Tyrion ’s own “ hearts and minds ” cause has pay off , because he ’s made a friend : Bronn , a sword for hire . Bronn takes on Lysa ’s to a great extent panoplied champion , wearing no armour himself , and slew the knight to shreds in front of the horrified court of the Eyrie . ( mouth of which , here ’s some awful Eyrie conception artwe found over at Fanpop . )
Once Bronn has vanquished Lysa ’s maven , he and Tyrion are innocent to go — out onto the improbably dangerous , nasty route from the Eyrie . They probably wo n’t make it back to the Kingsroad in one piece , what with all those horrible J. J. Hill kindred out there — which just die to show that Tyrion should be more like Viserys , who probably would have browbeat everyone into compliance in no time .
Meanwhile , there are the Starks , who bear on to blurt deeper into bother , both in King ’s Landing and in Winterfell . Ned Stark kind of , sort of , wakes up from the delirium after his horrible pegleg wound to see the King and Queen stand over his bedside , pissed at him for his married woman ’s actions in seizing Tyrion . The King points out what Ned should already know : he ’s up to his royal eyeballs in debt to the Lannisters , and ca n’t pick a fight with them . The King browbeats Ned into resuming his duties as Hand of the King , before going off on a hunt , because “ Killing thing clears my head . ”
Now that he ’s Hand of the King again , Ned takes the King ’s “ do n’t piss off the Lannisters ” injunction to eye — for about five minutes . When he hears of a poor village being pillage and destruct by a knight who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ser Gregor Clegane — the poor unsuccessful person at the jousting last week — Ned decide that the Lannisters must be behind this scandalisation , and sends Ser Beric Dondarrion to handle with Ser Gregor . He also orders the header of the Lannister family , Tywin Lannister , to come to court and answer for his crime .
And then Ned at long last figures out the secret that cost the previous Hand of the King his living , and be his boy Bran the use of his legs — the heritor ostensible , Joffrey , and the other imperial child have blond tomentum , when every other member of the Baratheon line , pass away back century , has had black hair . And the King ’s bastards all have black hair . It ’s a dominant trait — or , as the previous Hand put it , “ the seed is strong . ” Ned also , way too late in the game , decides to get his daughters Arya and Sansa out of King ’s Landing before the hostilities heat up any more .
What would Viserys do in this site ? Probably behead everybody ask , until he ’s indisputable there are no more potentially troublesome head still attach . Because Viserys does n’t do subtle .
The Stark nestling , meanwhile , are discover more and more reason to want to appease in King ’s Landing . Arya is learn more than just swordplay from her coach , Syrio Forel — she ’s learning ism , and a way of putting her worry out of her mind so she can be the ultimate swordswoman . Sansa — in an perfectly brilliant scene — acts bratty towards her poor Septa Mordane , until Joffrey Bieber shows up and excuse for being such a total shitbag since the whole “ wolf bite ” incident on the road . And have her a nice necklace , because she ’ll be queen one day .
Back in Winterfell , meanwhile , the firstborn Stark minor , Robb , stress to figure out what to do about the Lannisters maiming his pop and stamp out his male parent ’s men . And Theon Greyjoy suggests taking up arms and fight back — but Robb reminds Theon that this is n’t really his star sign , the umpteenth time someone has rubbed Theon ’s nose in that fact late . Poor Theon ca n’t even convert his favorite sex worker , Ros , to lodge around . ( She does scoot him one last metre , though . )
Bran in conclusion has his fancy saddle , allowing him to ride his horse despite his accidental injury — and the first thing he does is to ride off into the mystifying woods on his own , where a group of maraud wildlings nearly capture him . Robb and Theon take care of these raiders , but leave one of them , a woman , alive in interchange for her promises of allegiance .
But since we ’re on the topic of “ What would Viserys do ? ” — and it ’s sadly our last chance to conceive of how Viserys would handle the many cunning office that these characters face — it ’s important to compare Viserys to the man whose throne he wants : King Robert . Who gain some very dodgy choices this clip around . King Robert puts the world whose wife nab his wife ’s comrade back in bursting charge , and tells him to seat on the stool while he ’s off bump off beasts . And then he traipses off into the forest with his young crony Renly , Ser Barristan Selmy and his gallant , Lancel Lannister — two out of three of whom would gayly patter on his cadaver . Then he proceeds to make himself as obnoxious as possible , reminiscing about the women he ’s fucked and the people he ’s killed , while stagger around the forest with an tremendous lance .
King Robert , at least , realize that government activity means compromises — and that you have to beak who to trust . Ned , the brother Robert choose , is the only person Robert can leave to govern in his stead . And yet , Robert ca n’t take Ned ’s side in his burgeon feud against the Lannisters . He have it away that if the Starks and Lannisters come to snow , the realm will be torn apart , and his only result is to put Ned in a position of authority , where he may have to act with chasteness . Of course , it does n’t really turn out that way .
So what would Viserys do , in Robert ’s spot ? I ’m guessing there would be a lot of nonmeaningful threat and specious arguments — that ’s on the face of it what you get when you wake the dragon .
Poor Viserys . At least he ’ll always be king in our hearts .
