As soon as the electronic mail archives ’ capacity were made publicly uncommitted , disceptation broke out . Was there test copy of data handling that could flip the entire climate argument topsy - turvy ? Were scientist at the university work to keep works by climate sceptic out of journals ? answer to either question are ill-defined . concord to New Scientist , there was no evidence of factual data manipulation , but some of the email rally could be construed as attempts to suppress some research .
No matter how those questions wander up being dissolve , in the terminal the trouble does n’t seem to be in the contents of the email or in the data , but in the fact that the Climate Research Unit restricted access to the climate data to those it deemed “ bona fide researchers . ” Maybe some of the charge the whole faced could ’ve been avoided had the data point been more freely shared in the first position .
