Halle Berryis opening up about her friendship withAngelina Jolieas the two prepare for their next filmMaude v Maude.
In an interview withVariety,Berry, 57, spoke about her upcoming project — marking her second directing effort — which she is co-starring and co-producing with Jolie, 48. The actresses, while excited to work together now, apparently did not always get along that well.
“We had a rocky start and I think that is going to serve us well in our screen time together,” Berry told the outlet before saying she is “thrilled to work with another woman and craft a story with our sensibility and from our point of view. She is formidable.”
While theJohn Wickactress joked that the story behind their conflict is a “good one,” she is not ready to share it with the public. She did, however, give a hint into what strengthened the friendship.
“We’ve been talking a lot about divorces and exes,” the actress remarked. “We bonded, let’s say that.”
Berry was previously married toOlivier Martinez, and the pair’sdivorcewas finalized in August eight years after filing. Jolie and actorBrad Pittweremarried for four yearsbefore Jolie filed fordivorcein 2016. The two have been in alegal battlein the years since.

Maude v Maude,which Berry described as a mixture of comedy,Mr & Mrs SmithandMission: Impossible, will include the two women fighting “physically and intellectually,” but is also heartwarming.
“It’s a love story at its core but it deals with the supernatural, time travel and the future.”
As for filming kicking off, the Oscar winner said she is still in the process of searching for locations.
“We plan on going all around the world,” she said. “Warner Bros. bought our screenplay and, for us, it is about going places that have never been shown on screen before.”
In response toVariety’sprofile, Berry took toX (formerly Twitter)to engage with fans who are awaiting her next project.
“Someone just tweeted a ‘mother off’ and I’m laughing so hard right now. Glad you guys are just as excited about this project as I am,” she wrote on Wednesday.

“Because I was a woman, and a Black woman, the treatment I received and the things I had to put up with were unconscionable,” she said. “If I were a white man or even a Black man, it would have been easier. It’s amazing I even made it and a miracle Netflix bought it.”
