Years after filming the 2006 cult classic movieAquamarine,Joanna “JoJo” Levesquesays she considered swiping right on her costar Jake McDorman on the dating app Raya.
The former child star made the admission on an episode of First We Feast’sTruth or Dab: Rapid Fire, when she was asked about one scene in the film, which was shot when she was 14.
McDormand played Raymond, a human with whom the mermaid ultimately falls in love.

In one scene, JoJo whispers in Roberts ear. Asked onTruth or Dabto share what she was whispering, the actress said, “We were probably talking about Jake — how cute he was.”
She continued: “And it’s so funny because I saw him on Raya. We were both on there. And I’m like, ‘Do I? Do I swipe? ‘Cause like, you’re cute.’ But I kept going, because that ship has sailed.”

Although it wasn’t a box office hit, the film has become a touchstone for millennials and even younger generations.
In a 2024 episode ofThe Viall Filespodcast, the singer toldBacheloralumnusNick Vialland his co-host andwife,Natalie Joy, that the love for the film is “funny — it is! I hope that that word isn’t offensive," she added, “I don’t mean it like that, but it’s just so funny because it’s, like, just such a silly movie.”
“It’s such a moment,” she continued. ”It’s like a little cult classic, low-key, for girls of our demographic.”
