“There was a big temptation to skip ahead when they sent us those final [scripts],” Harington, 32, told the host, adding of himself and his castmates, “No one wants to know what happens more than we do!”
“But I didn’t. I stopped myself,” the actor vowed. “They came so late, they were like three days before the read-through because they didn’t want any leaks. And I stopped myself because I thought, ‘What’s better than hearing it’ — we had this big read-through — ‘hearing it with the rest of the cast, actually reading as their characters?’ ”

“So I became, like, a litmus test for the season,” he continued. “They put a camera on me to see my reactions as the events unfolded and David [Benihoff] and Dan [Weiss], all the producers, are looking at me and they got some pretty good reactions. I think they’ll be a documentary at some point.”
Harington toldSeth Meyersthat “of course” there were moments where the emotion in the air was palpable among the cast during the read-through, joking to the contrary, “It’s going to a terrible last season.”
“If I had just been deadpan, like, nothing happened,” he quipped. “I can say that there are definite big moments.”

Monday was a busy day for Harington, who also stepped out for a date night in N.Y.C. with his wife and formerGOTcostarRose Leslie— two days afterhis hosting gigonSaturday Night Live.
Harington was wearing the same all-black dapper ensemble from hisLate Nightappearance while Leslie, 32, was dressed in a plaid jacket, fitted black jeans and black buckled boots.
Addressing his now-infamous 2017 April Fools’ Day prank on his wife, Harington told Meyers this year was a bit less faux-gore-laden: “She has a favorite almond milk — she won’t drink any other almond milk — so I just wrote an article about how this company that makes her favorite almond milk was going under because of Brexit.”
But it “backfired” when Leslie bulk ordered the almond milk — on his credit card! “So I ended up spending 150 quid on almond milk,” he lamented.
Game of Thrones‘ eighth and final season premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
