Lily Gladstoneis embracing the advice of a seasoned pro to get her through this year’s busyOscarseason.
In an exclusive interview for PEOPLE’s annual Oscar portfolio, the 37-year-oldKillers of the Flower Moon star —who is nominated forher first-ever Academy Awardfor theMartin Scorsesefilm — reveals that veteran actressCate Blanchettgave her some tips for surviving the hectic lead-up to the big night on March 10.
“Her big tip was to keep up on your adaptogenic mushrooms through this whole period, which is great advice,” Gladstone recalls. “It’s like, okay, that is a very quick, easy, self-care ritual that I can adapt, coming from one of the most brilliant, brilliant actors alive.”
She adds that two-time Oscar winner Blanchett, 54, shared the suggestion with her during one of the times the pair bumped into each other during this year’s awards show circuit — and admits that theTárstar’s advice surprised her.
“You grow up idolizing somebody’s career and their acting, and you think it’s going to be a bit of advice about how to stay present or how to really commit to an objective or some acting tip,” she explains.

Gladstone, who says she’s “idolized” Blanchett since her teenage years, still remembers her disappointment when the Australian star didn’t take home an Oscar in 1999 for her portrayal of Elizabeth I inElizabeth. (The Best Actress award instead went toGwyneth PaltrowforShakespeare in Love.)
“I remember just being really, really upset about that. She’s my ultimate actress. I think she’s the great talent of this generation,” she says, adding that Blanchett has been “so kind” to her amid her own breakout success in Hollywood.
In addition to leaning into Blanchett’s mushroom advice, Gladstone tells PEOPLE that she will have a few lucky charms tucked away in her evening bag on Oscars night to help her through the anticipation and nerves of the ceremony.

“I got to sit down with Deb Haaland, and just the way that she tears up talking about that win,” she recalls, referring to her Golden Globe trophy for best actress in a motion picture - drama. “She gave me a couple pairs of earrings. She gave me some chocolates. She gave me her coin.”
Gladstone will also bring the Wilma Mankiller Quarter and the newly minted Maria Tallchief Quarter, featuring the Native American prima ballerina who broke barriers both on and off the stage.
“So all of these little coins that I’m collecting of these first-time trailblazer breakout icons, true matriarchs, true indigenous matriarchs that are just kicking the door open for their respective fields,” she explains. “So yeah, I like to carry a little piece of each of them with me.”
