The professional soccer player, 37, spoke withZane Lowe, 51, about his family life in an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE ahead of the full interview’s release on Friday, Feb. 28. Messi, who shares three boys Mateo, Thiago and Ciro with wifeAntonela Roccuzzo, told the DJ and record producer that he lives a “very normal life” outside of his fame as an athlete.
“Obviously, when I enter into my house, with my family, I try to be a normal dad, a normal husband, like anybody else, assuming the responsibilities we all have, as a father, as a husband, … and be a normal person,” he shares. “I am beyond everything else that happens to me — the fame [and] the recognition — I may have outside. Inside my house, I am a very normal person, like anybody else.”
“I discipline the children, I put limits, play and share with them, with my wife and I live a very normal life as well,” he adds.

For Messi, his family is always a priority. When he celebrated his first World Cup win, the Argentine soccer star — who scored two goals to help secure Argentina’s win against France in the2022 FIFA World Cup— received a big hug from two of his sons on the field.
The sweet moment was captured on camera, with Messi on his knees enthusiastically embracing his sons with a big smile. The boys wrapped their arms around him while wearing purple jerseys with their father’s name and number 10 on the back.
Ahead of the game, Messi’s son Thiago wrote down the lyrics to the song “Muchachos Ahora Nos Volvimos a Ilusionar” to show support for his father, which his mother Antonella shared on her Instagram Story, according toThe Indian ExpressandDaily Mail.

Messi grew up in aclose-knit familyalongside three siblings: brothers Rodrigo and Matías and sister María Sol. Before Messi left for Spain as a teenager and began his journey to becoming one of the best soccer players in history, he lived with his siblings and parents,dad Jorge and mom Celia, in Rosario, Argentina.
The siblings remain close through the ebbs and flows of life. Both Rodrigo and Matías have helped Lionel with the practical side of his career, while María Sol has a leadership role at The Messi Store.
“I love football and I live for it, but family is above all,” Messi toldMarcain 2018. He also added that he and his family always try to return to Argentina for special occasions, like Christmas.
