A new mom took toRedditwith a sticky situation that she thought she handled well. Her husband, however, did not agree.
“Over the years, I would tell him that he doesn’t have to keep buying me expensive gifts bc we both have expenses such as a mortgage and other bills. I also gift him expensive presents that I save up to buy him,” she shared.
OP was delighted with the gift and thanked her husband, insisting it was “too much.” Her husband responded that “he appreciated her and was excited for this journey we would both experience. He also saw how miserable I was mentally and emotionally during my pregnancy.”

OP went to add the bag to her collection the following day and noticed “something felt off.”
“I noticed that the material of the bag was different. The inside of the bag looked a little off, and the handles of the bag felt very bad quality — to the point where I placed too many things in the bag, I am sure it would tear,” she wrote.
The new mom was curious why her husband would do that when she’d emphasized before that the expensive gifts weren’t necessary. She decided to ask her husband about where he bought the bag.
“At first, he said the actual Gucci store. I kept asking if he was sure a couple of times. He then told me no, it was from eBay. He said he got it for a good deal.”

OP told him she’d discovered the bag was fake and that he should try to get refunded, which he didn’t take kindly to.
“He angrily said he was offended and that eBay authenticated the bag, and how dare I call the bag fake. I showed him the pictures and he just even more mad and called me ungrateful,” she shared.
“I even compared it to another gucci bag that I have and showed him how the material is different. I also explained to him that if he paid a lot of money for the bag thinking it was real, then he got scammed and should get a refund. He paused for a second and took the bag. He keeps calling me ungrateful.”

Asking if she was wrong for bringing it to his attention, OP had a few people who thought she could have handled things differently, with one commenter explaining she was wrong for continuing to question the bag’s authenticity but not wrong for bringing it to his attention.
“It isn’t hard to read between the lines given his responses that either something is up financially, he got ripped off, and he just really feels bad and embarrassed, so he got defensive,“they wrote.
“I would have just dropped it after the first time and be grateful for the gift regardless. It’s the ‘Thought that counts,’ right? So continuing to question the authenticity with him is rubbing salt in the wound,” they continued. “You told him it was fake. OK, leave it at that. Or better yet, don’t tell him at all and just be happy with it.”
Most others, however, say that she handled the situation in the best way possible. “You were obviously more worried about your husband getting ripped off than you were about receiving an authentic bag. Hopefully, your husband will calm down and see you are simply concerned, not ungrateful,“one commenter wrote.
OP was thankful for her supporters, noting, “I’m fine if he gets his money back and doesn’t replace the bag.”
